New CERT Training Class - starts 1/24!
Posted by: jmcalister on 01/02/2009 09:22 AM
The classes will continue on 2/7, 2/21, 3/7, 3/24. FINAL practical exercise on Saturday April 4th.
The CERT course covers topics including:
- Disaster preparedness for you and your family
- Fire suppression
- CERT organization
- Light search and rescue
- Emergency medical procedures
- Terrorism
- Disaster psychology
The course is free and is taught by local emergency professionals. It is also a great complementary training to your block club activities!
CERT members help support Lakewood first responders in the event of city emergencies and most importantly, are trained to help themselves, their families and their neighbors in the event of a city emergency where police, fire and EMS could not get to everyone right away.
Lakewood currently has a CERT team of 44 volunteers of varied ages and professions and we are looking for more members to join us in keeping Lakewood prepared! The only requirements are that trainees must live and/or work in Lakewood, be over 18 years of age and U.S. citizens.
Because we train with interested residents from the other five Westshore suburbs, classes are held at 741 Bassett rd. in the Westlake City Service Center.
